Implementing the first of the changes this year, $3b has been reserved for the underground Sydney Metro West rapid line, first announced in November 2016.
The line will make a huge difference to homebuyers who feel stuck between seeking out affordable, new houses and keeping their jobs in the CBD and surrounding areas.
The Hills District will benefit the most, with an estimated travel time of under an hour thanks to this latest development plan and the Sydney Metro Northwest line set to open next year. The latter is already seeing the current development of new stations at Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Norwest Bella Vista and Cudgegong Road.
Rouse Hill (a six minute drive from our Highgrove Box Hill estate), is currently estimated to take approximately 1h 40m to the city; and with the new line will take 55 minutes to Wynyard Station (by this year) and 46 minutes to Martin Place (by 2024).
Kellyville will also shave 45 minutes from the commute with 53 minutes and 44 minutes to Wynyard and Martine Place respectively.
The Sydney Metro West will make the Parramatta to CBD commute less than 20 minutes, and will include an underground interchange at Westmead or Parramatta, potentially shaving even more from the commute.
Both developments, however, will include benefits beyond commute time, creating a more convenient and sustainable link between affordable housing and city employment; they will see a roll out of 4000 new commuter car parks, a train arriving every four minutes in peak hours and no timetable.
The growth of The Hills District has been evident for a long time, and now time, money and infrastructure are actively being invested into facilitating what is set to be a ‘best of both worlds’ scenario. Families priced out of the inner-city housing market can breathe a sigh of relief at now being offered a lifestyle that doesn’t sacrifice quality, space and longevity in owning a new home.
