Get Thrifty With Your Knockdown Rebuild

A knockdown rebuild is simply demolishing your old house and building a beautiful, brand new home in its place. It’s a cost effective way that allows you to build the home of your dreams without moving from the suburb you love. And if you’re looking for even more ways to save money, we have some tips on how to get thrifty with your knockdown rebuild

Trash To Treasure

Depending what year your house was built and the quality of materials used, your home could be filled with a plethora of valuable items such as bricks, a range of floor coverings such as wooden floorboards, tiles or pavers, or even items like aluminium window frames and french or barn doors. And with the rustic design trend being on the rise, items like rusted roof sheets and blemished timbers could go for almost three times the price than a brand new roof sheet.

Selling these existing finishings in your current house could help you raise a bit of money that you could then use to put towards new furniture or pay for part of your new home. Platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Gumtree tend to offer great success in selling your secondhand items. For antique or unique items, it may be worth giving your local building salvage yard a call and ask if they can evaluate your possessions.

It doesn’t just stop at building materials either! Before booking in your demolition, you could take apart any fixtures and fittings that are in good condition and sell those too! Whether it’s working kitchen appliances such as ovens and stoves, cooling systems like air conditioners or fans, or contemporary bathroom taps or light fittings, you could potentially make some serious cash by selling your stuff.

Out With The Old, In With The New

If you’ve chosen your brand new house design and have a beautiful new colour scheme in mind, there’s a high chance that some of your current furniture no longer suits your style and will therefore not suit your new home. Whether you’ve fallen out of love with some furniture, or never loved them in the first place, consider hosting a garage sale, or taking it online, and selling it via an online marketplace.

Money Really Does Grow On Trees!

Last but not least, make sure you check your property for any mature trees, as they could be worth a sizeable amount of money. That being said, they won’t be worth the same amount as farm-raised mature trees that are sold at your local garden centre, as you won’t be able to provide the same guarantees they can (e.g. that the tree’s root ball is in a healthy condition, that the tree is strong enough to survive the transplant and pest control), but it could be still worth looking into!

All in all, there are many ways to get thrifty and rack up a bit of cash by recycling your old items through your knockdown rebuild. If you’re in the beginning stages of planning your knockdown rebuild, make sure you check out our beautiful home designs.
