Meet Michael

When asking a little boy what they want to be when they grow up, you might be met with the typical answers, such as police officer, firefighter or astronaut and when they grew up, their plans changed. However when Michael was a kid, his parents would often find him building an array of things with his Lego, and then we he grew a little older, took interest in building things with timber and beyond. Fascinated with bringing ideas to life with his own hands, Michael always knew he wanted to do something where he could see the end product of his handy work.

Michael spent his young adulthood finishing his trade and getting the experience he needed which led him to land a role with Clarendon Homes in 2014 as a Site Manager. Quickly showing his potential and enthusiasm in the role, Michael was promoted to Area Construction Manager within a few years which is the role he's currently thriving in.

Job satisfaction is what it's all about

'When I look over the last 8 years I have been with Clarendon Homes,' Michael says when asked about something he enjoys about his workplace, 'I see the people I love working with; the people that make Clarendon Homes the amazing workplace it is now.' Michael enjoys working with his peers, sharing his knowledge and learning from them daily. Further to that, the final weeks of construction are satisfying to watch for Michael.

'All the hard work that you have put into make someone's dream home become a reality, and then finally seeing the end result is greatly satisfying,' he says. 'I also enjoy working with clients through the building phase of their journey, getting to know them and then seeing them get excited about receiving the keys to their brand new home.'

Building on knowledge

With an unprecedented pandemic disrupting the building industry, as an Area Construction Manager, Michael has had to navigate through a world of labour and material shortages. Successfully doing so, Michael managed to juggle everything in his power so that he could carry on his work with as little interruption to his building sites as possible. Through the last few years working at Clarendon Homes, Michael learned a lot about himself as well as the role he does. 'Clarendon has helped me understand and comfortably settle into new roles through the guidance of the management team along the way,' Michael says. 'In this day and age, we never stop learning, and at Clarendon, they give you all the opportunities to do so,' he continued.

Michael says that he's learned that if you want to be successful in today's working environment, it's important to not shy away from putting your hand up and asking for help and guidance. 'We always need to remember that even the best in the trade make mistakes,' Michael says. While Michael goes above and beyond at his job during the week, the weekends are spent slightly different, whether it's following his kids around with the sport or playing it himself or staying fit and hitting the gym daily, Michael lives life to the fullest and takes every opportunity that comes his way.

"In this day and age, we never stop learning, and at Clarendon, they give you all the opportunities to do so."
